Here is a week-by-week list of Posts, Comments, Journal Entries, and anything else that we've agreed to produce in this course. Titles for your personal course blog posts are in CAPS.

Week 1
  • Attend or watch Zoom meeting

  • Complete member survey
  • Publish "Welcome" post on personal course blog (title: WELCOME)

Week 2
  • Attend or watch Zoom meeting
  • Journal entries (daily)
  • Publish paragraph about Week 1 on personal course blog (title: PANDEMIC PEDAGOGY)
  • Comment to "Attendance" post 
  • Publish paragraph on "Right to Your Opinion" on personal course blog (title: MY OPINION IS THAT I AM NOT ENTITLED)
  • Comment to "Pandemic Journal" post

Week 3
  • Attend or watch Zoom meeting

  • Publish answers to Hack to School Night questions on personal course blog (title: I HAVE THE ANSWERS)

Week 4

  • Comment to "When your teacher writes an essay" post
  • Watch "Meanings Signs & Symbols video & answer questions in a post on personal course blog (title: IT'S SYMBOLIC)

Week 5 

  • Attend or watch Zoom meeting
  • Journal entries (daily)
  • Publish your translation of Hugo's Preface to Les Mis in a post on personal course blog (title: A WORD ABOUT THE MISERABLES)
  • Publish your response to Chapter 1 on personal course blog (title: LES MIS #1) 
  • Email your progress report insights no later than 3:00 P.M. on Friday, September 18
  • Start a list (in your notebook or on your computer/tablet/phone) of the words in Les Mis that are unfamiliar to you or are used in an unfamiliar way. Keep the list where you can refer to it when we read next week.
  • Read "how to publish your handwritten work online" and post your three favorite journal entries (making sure, of course, that they are internet-friendly and make you look good!) on your blog (title: PAGES FROM MY JOURNAL #1). Due by Tuesday, 9/22 at 9:00 A.M. Pacific. 

Week 6

  • Review (read, listen, or watch) & post:

Week 9

  • Read "how to publish your handwritten work online" and please post your three favorite journal entries from the past two weeks on your blog (making sure, of course, that they are internet-friendly and make you look good!) on your blog (title: PAGES FROM MY JOURNAL #2). Due by Tuesday, 10/13 at 5:00 P.M. Pacific. 
  • Read "How We Read." In a post on your blog, please describe the four strategies recommended in the essay for how to love reading while also mastering reading for school. (title: HOW WE READ/ first lines: "Reading is supposed to be fun, but sometimes reading for school is a challenge. Here are four ways we can have more fun reading and do it better at the same time...") 
  • Review (read, listen, or watch) & post:
    • title: LES MIS CH 7
    • title: LES MIS CH 8 (if we get to it during our zoom meeting) 

Week 10

  • Attend or watch Zoom meeting
  • Journal entries (daily)
  • Read & post first impression posts:

  • Publish a post on your blog that describes: a) What you personally like about Les Mis so far (find at least one thing :) and b) At least three techniques that Victor Hugo used to create the effects that mattered to you. Week 14 (including Thanksgiving Break)

  • Summarize what we have read so far (title: LES MIS PART I SUMMARY).  Note: doing this well will require no less than three paragraphs.
  • Make (a minimum of two) connections between what we've read in the book and what you learned about the French Revolution.  If you don't remember, look it up.  (title: LES MIS & THE FRENCH REVOLUTION)
  • Make (a minimum of three) connections between what we've read in the book and your own lived experience of modern America.  Think about the people/characters, places, events, cultures, politics, and values we've discussed. (title: LES MIS TODAY)It's time to take our classroom community/conversation online.  
  • Please visit at least three of your classmates' blogs and comment to at least one of their posts.  (That means we should be able to see three of your comments.)  If you visit a blog with lots of comments, see if you can find one that has less and start the conversation.  It's always nice to receive comments :). Post about the experience of receiving comments on your blog (title: THANKS FOR YOUR COMMENTS) 
  • Read Literature Analysis book, answer Literature Analysis questions, and post Literature Analysis on your blog (title: LITERATURE ANALYSIS #1/ due Friday, November 20 by 5:00 P.M. Pacific Time)
